Hourglass Afternoon

Hourglass Afternoon

The afternoon was slipping away
Gulls, Cormorants, and Terns
Sailed and sang on its passing
The beach we sat
On shifting sands
The heat pushed and stole
Our excesses, reducing us
To outlines
You came out of the water
Reclining on the golden
Sand
On our skin
Setting sun, setting time
Yellows, oranges and blues
(Re)turning to black and white
The sound of the tide
Hushing
Fading slowly to silence
The horizon
Exhaling
We packed up
And went home
