Heading Back

by mistersoto

On a windless day
Overcast with cloud
So grey, even shadow was blotted
A confession escaped his lips
As we walked the river way
With its glacial surface and
Speeding current
That took with it
The clouds reflection
He told me
Of the slow defusing
Of his slower life
With its robbed
And unmapped destinations
Of fates that weren’t fates
So absorbed we became
We missed the passing
Of a migrating flock
Truths divulged
Along the path
That was fading
Into field beneath our feet
As the light
Became cracked
Behind the trees
Turning we retraced our steps
Before darkness
His words spoken
Remained partial
In the fields
Afloat in heavy suspension
An answer
Added to the layers
Faded as the day expired
